Emissions reduction credit

Everything we create, transport, and enjoy adds CO2 and other climate-warming gases. Even a small office contributes to this carbon footprint.
To measure a company’s carbon impact, we use two key tools: the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF), which shows CO2 emissions for a specific product, and the Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF), which totals CO2 emissions for the entire company. Calculating these footprints requires time and money, especially for a startup.
Excitingly, we’ve calculated our CCF for 2022 using the carbonzero.ca calculator. However, we’re still gathering data on raw materials and product manufacturing for that year. We’re committed to transparency and are working to complete the picture.

Product Carbon Footprint (PCF)

To calculate the cradle-to-gate CO2 emissions of an 8-gram cleaning tablet, we’ll consider emissions up to the point it reaches the gate, including manufacturing and transportation phases.
Manufacturing: Using the CML 2001 method, emissions from manufacturing are about 0.15 kg of CO2 for producing 8 grams of cleaning tablets.
Transportation: The carbonzero.ca calculator estimates 0.61 kg of CO2 emissions per kg of tablets shipped. For an 8-gram tablet, this equals 0.00488 kg of CO2.
Total CO2 Emissions: Adding these together, the cradle-to-gate emissions are 0.15488 kg of CO2 for an 8-gram cleaning tablet.
Note that these are rough estimates and actual emissions may vary based on specific manufacturing processes and transportation routes. This calculation excludes emissions from the use and end-of-life phases.

Carbon footprint offset estimate 7.16 kg/refill

To calculate the carbon footprint offset of using an 8-gram cleaning tablet compared to a 300-gram cleaning solution, we compare their cradle-to-gate CO2 emissions.
For the 8-gram cleaning tablet, emissions are approximately 0.15488 kg of CO2.
For a 300-gram cleaning solution, assuming similar emissions per gram, the cradle-to-gate emissions are about 7.32 kg of CO2.
Carbon Footprint Offset:
Offset = Emissions from 300-gram solution−Emissions from 8-gram refill
Offset = 7.32 kg−0.15488 kg=7.16512 kg of CO2
Using an 8-gram tablet instead of a 300-gram solution reduces the carbon footprint by approximately 7.16512 kg of CO2.
These are rough estimates, and actual emissions may vary based on manufacturing processes and transportation routes. This calculation excludes emissions from the use and end-of-life phases.
